Union League of America ritual, 1865 Dec. 13.

Typewritten copy of the ritual of the Union League of America prescribed by the national convention in Washington, D.C., on Dec. 13, 1865. Providing precise instructions regarding the conduct of meetings of chapters of the Union League, the ritual lays out the sequence of actions that are to begin each meeting, describes the order in which chapter business is to be discussed, and provides the text of the prayers, oaths, and charges that are to be spoken at the opening and closing of the meetings. The purpose of the meeting described in the ritual seems to be to induct new members into the League. The ritual was issued to deputy members of St. James Parish, La., on Dec. 26, 1865.
